If your website shows an error like this when it loads:
Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version ">= 8.0.0".
it means your site, or a plugin or theme it uses, needs a newer version of PHP than the one your domain is currently set to. The version in the message (here 8.0.0) is the minimum it will run on. Some sites show a higher number, such as 8.1.0 or 8.2.0.
The fix is to switch your domain to a newer PHP version.
Change your PHP version
- Log in to cPanel from your service page under Services → My Services (https://www.hooplahosting.co.nz/client/clientarea.php?action=services).
- Open MultiPHP Manager in the Software section.
- Tick the box next to the domain showing the error.
- Choose a PHP version that is at least the version in the error message. We recommend PHP 8.3 or newer (for example ea-php83 or ea-php84), because older versions no longer get security updates.
- Click Apply, then reload your website.
If the site breaks on the newer version
Some older themes and plugins don't work on newer PHP versions. If your site shows a different error after switching, update WordPress, your theme and your plugins, then try again. You can also step back one version (for example from 8.4 to 8.3), as long as it still meets the minimum in the original error.
For more on choosing a version, see Which PHP versions do you support? and How to change your PHP version in cPanel.
