What is Moodle?

Moodle is an open-source learning management system (LMS) used by schools, universities, training providers and businesses around the world. Teachers and trainers build online courses with lessons, files, quizzes and assignments, and learners work through them at their own pace or as part of a class.

Moodle tracks progress, grades work and keeps learners engaged with forums, messaging and badges. It is equally suited to a school running blended learning, a business delivering compliance training or an organisation selling online courses.

Moodle hosting requirements

Moodle stores course files in its data folder and relies on scheduled tasks that should run every minute through cron. It also uses more memory than a typical website when many learners are active. We recommend Business Hosting for most Moodle sites. Small or trial sites can start on web hosting, and large schools or organisations may suit a Managed cPanel VPS.

Moodle Hosting FAQs

Which plan do I need for Moodle?

Moodle stores course files and uses scheduled tasks, so we recommend Business Hosting for most sites. Small or trial sites can start on web hosting.

Can I install Moodle with one click?

Yes. Moodle is available in Softaculous in your cPanel account. Remember to set up the Moodle cron job in cPanel after installing.

Can you migrate my existing Moodle site?

Yes. Contact us with the size of your site and our team will help plan the migration.

How many learners can Moodle support?

That depends on how many are active at once and how your courses are built. Business Hosting suits small to medium sites. For hundreds of concurrent users, talk to us about a Managed cPanel VPS.

Is Moodle free?

Yes. Moodle is free and open source. Some plugins and themes are paid.

Is learner data stored in New Zealand?

Our New Zealand hosting runs on Auckland infrastructure, so your Moodle data is stored in New Zealand.
