Every Hoopla Hosting cPanel plan includes WP Toolkit, which installs WordPress for you in a couple of minutes. It creates the database, sets up your admin login and keeps WordPress updated, so there's nothing to download or upload.
Before you start
- Your domain should be pointing to our nameservers, so the site works once it's installed. See Which nameservers do I use?
- To install on a subdomain (for example
blog.yourdomain.co.nz) or a second domain, add it in cPanel first. See Create a subdomain in cPanel or Add an addon domain or alias to your hosting. - If there's an old website in the folder you're installing to, take a backup and remove it first, so the two don't clash.
Install WordPress
- Log in to cPanel from your service page under Services → My Services (https://www.hooplahosting.co.nz/client/clientarea.php?action=services).
- Open WP Toolkit (type it in the cPanel search bar, or find it under Domains).
- Click Install (or Install WordPress if this is your first site).
- Fill in the installation form:
- Installation path: choose your domain. WP Toolkit may suggest a folder such as
/wpafter it. Delete the folder name if you want the site atyourdomain.co.nzrather thanyourdomain.co.nz/wp. - Website title: your site's name. You can change it later.
- Plugin/theme set: leave as none unless you want a starter set.
- Administrator username: pick something other than
admin. - Administrator password: use the generated one or your own strong password, and save it somewhere safe.
- Administrator email: an address you check. Password resets and security notices go here.
- Automatic updates: we recommend turning on updates for security releases at least.
- Installation path: choose your domain. WP Toolkit may suggest a folder such as
- Click Install and wait for it to finish. This usually takes a minute or two.
Log in to your new site
When the install finishes, click Log in in WP Toolkit to open your WordPress dashboard. You can also log in any time at https://yourdomain.co.nz/wp-admin. See Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
Recommended next steps
- Turn on HTTPS: our free SSL is added automatically. Once your site shows the padlock, force HTTPS so every visitor uses it. See Set up redirects and force HTTPS.
- Install LiteSpeed Cache: makes your site much faster on our servers. See WordPress LiteSpeed Cache plugin setup.
- Delete what you don't need: remove the sample post and page, and any themes and plugins you won't use.
- Know where your backups are: we back up your account daily. See Restore files, databases or email from a backup.
- Setting up a shop? See Set up an online store with WordPress and WooCommerce.
Troubleshooting
- The site is at /wp or another folder: the folder name wasn't removed during install. You can move it in WP Toolkit (open the site and use Clone or Copy Data), or reinstall at the right location.
- You see an old website or a default page: another
index.htmlorindex.phpfile in the folder may be loading first. Remove it in File Manager. - "Site can't be reached": your domain may not be pointing to us yet. Nameserver changes can take a few hours.
