Resource limits on web hosting packages at Hoopla Hosting
Common issues related to resource limits:
- Slow website
- Slow wordpress dashboard
- Plugin functions are slow or unresponsive
- Elementor and/or other drag drop builders not responding
What are resource limits?
Resource limits play an important role in ensuring busy websites/accounts do not effect other customers.
Each cpanel account is limited by its resources: CPU, Memory, IO( Input/output ) and MySQL IO.
Shared Hosting Example:
100%CPU
1GB Memory
1MB/s IO
1MB/s MySQL IO
20 EP
This is enough resources to run a small to medium sized WordPress website, running eCommerce plugins and drag and drop builders.
What happens if my account reaches the resource limit?
If your account reaches the limits, web visits will be slow and dashboard functions maybe slow.
The account maybe further restricted if it breaches MySQL IO limits for up to an hour.
Plugins may also fail to run, install and/or update.
What causes resource usage and limits to be reached and how can I fix it?
Errors/Bugs and loops can cause resource usage to spike, resulting in the resource limit being reached.
Backup plugins, Drag and drop builders and other resource intense plugins can soak up resources very quickly.
If the resource limits are being hit at a certain time each day - This indicates that a backup plugin is running in the background taking up resources.
( Hoopla Hosting runs daily backups - You can save updraft and restore backups any time from our cPanel Jetbackups interface within minutes )
Common issues causing irregular spikes in usage:
- Plugins out of date
- Plugins looping/bugs/errors
- Theme issues, bugs ( ensure themes are up to date )
- WordPress malware infections
- Heavy plugins ( jetpack, updraftplus backups are notorious for using all resources available )
Solutions:
- Update all plugins, themes
- Ensure wordpress is up to date
- Run newer version of PHP - 7.4, 8.0, 8.1
- Secure wordpress and run wordfence scan for malware
- Ensure memory limits are at 1024MB ( PHP INI Editor in cPanel )
- Check error_log for faults and resolve
- Run litespeed cache wordpress plugin to cache page contents and decrease resource usage.
Does your website require more resources?
Your website may require more resources to run all plugins, for larger amounts of traffic and/or extra functions added.
As a website grows so does its functionality demand - Whereby you, or the website owner is installing more plugins - Gradually traffic increases across the years of operation further increasing resource usage.
You may need to upgrade to a Business Hosting plan for sufficient resources to run your website for higher traffic levels.
- If running more than 25 wordpress plugins
- More than approx 2,500views per day
- Heavy ecommerce usage
- More than 200+ products with over 15 orders per day
Hoopla Hosting recommends running a Business Hosting plan giving more IO for example:
Business Hosting Example:
250-300% CPU
1GB Memory
3+MB/s IO
3MB/s MySQL IO
32 EP ( Entry Processes to serve traffic )
