Howto install Contao CMS on cPanel without Softaculous.
Softaculous installs a lower version of Contao CMS which is not updated.
cPanel does not enable you to change your main domain root folder.
However you can add a second/addon domain and change the root folder.
Requirements to install Contao CMS on cPanel:
- cPanel web hosting account
- Two domains
- At least 2-3GB disk space depending on usage
Download the .phar file from Contao download page
Setup your second domain as either /web or /public depending on the Contao version your wanting to run via the Domains section in cPanel.
Upload the ContaoManager.phar file to the new folder e.g public_html/web
Change the .phar file name ending to .phar.php via cPanel File Manager.
Open it in your browser e.g mydomain.co.nz/contaomanager.phar.php
Follow the instructions, you now have a working Contao CMS.
