VPS Hosting Guide – Hoopla Hosting

Welcome to your Hoopla Hosting VPS! This guide will help you get started with your new server, including managing it in the client area, reinstalling operating systems, and connecting via SSH.

  1. VPS Overview
Your VPS (Virtual Private Server) gives you full control over your own server environment. Unlike shared hosting, you have dedicated resources and root access. This makes it ideal for hosting websites, applications, game servers, or development environments.

Important: All VPS plans at Hoopla Hosting are self-managed. This means you are responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining your software and services. Our support team maintains the underlying hardware and network.

  1. Accessing the Client Area
Log in to the Hoopla Hosting Client Area (https://www.hooplahosting.co.nz/client) to manage your VPS.
Once inside, select Services → My Products & Services → Your VPS.

In the Product Details screen you can:

  • View server status (Online/Offline).

  • Power Off, Reset, or Reboot your VPS.

  • Check billing cycle and due dates.

  • Monitor bandwidth usage.

  • View assigned IP addresses.

  • Reinstall or change operating systems.

  1. Reinstallation & Operating Systems
From the Reinstallation tab, you can reinstall your VPS with a variety of operating systems, including:

  • AlmaLinux

  • CentOS

  • CloudLinux

  • Debian

  • Fedora

  • Ubuntu

If you require a custom or .ISO uploaded - Submit a support ticket and one of our staff will assist.

You can also perform a Disk Wipe before reinstalling if required.

Simply choose your preferred operating system and version from the drop-down menu, then confirm the reinstall.
Warning: This will erase all data on the VPS, so ensure you have backups first.

  1. IP Assignments & Network
Each VPS is assigned a dedicated IP address. You can find it under the IP Assignments section, along with:

  • Netmask

  • Gateway

  • Reverse DNS (if available)

  1. Connecting via SSH
Once your VPS is online and the operating system is installed, you can connect using SSH (Secure Shell).

On Linux / macOS:
Open a terminal and run:
ssh root@YOUR_SERVER_IP

Replace YOUR_SERVER_IP with the IP shown in the client area.

On Windows:

  • Download and install PuTTY (https://www.putty.org/).

  • Enter your VPS IP address.

  • Use root as the username.

  • Enter the password provided when your VPS was set up.

You now have full root access to manage your VPS.

  1. Self-Managed Responsibility
Because your VPS is self-managed, you are responsible for:

  • Securing your server (firewall, updates, patches).

  • Installing and configuring software (web servers, databases, etc.).

  • Managing backups.

  • Handling your own troubleshooting and system administration.

Our team ensures:

  • Hardware reliability.

  • Network uptime.

  • Access to the control panel.

If you need a managed environment, consider our Managed cPanel VPS Servers.

  1. Bandwidth & Usage Monitoring
The Graphs tab shows your bandwidth usage (in/out) over 24 hours, 14 days, or 30 days.
You can track traffic and ensure you remain within your plan’s limits.

  2. Rescue Mode
If your VPS becomes unresponsive due to misconfiguration, you can boot into Rescue Mode from the client area. This provides a temporary environment to repair your installation.

Summary

  • Manage your VPS from the Hoopla Hosting Client Area (TenantOS).

  • Reinstall with multiple Linux distributions.

  • Connect via SSH using your root credentials.

  • VPS hosting is self-managed — you control software and configuration.

  • Monitor bandwidth and IP details from your dashboard.

Your VPS is now ready to go!
